The characters are well cast & the authenticity of the scenes is very good. It is based on history so don’t expect Mel Gibson “grandstanding.” I would recommend this movie, but not if you prefer Fast & Furious type movies.

This movie was not worth buying. It lacked any real storyline. Watch another movie if you can.

Robert the Bruce may not be the action filled movie you are expecting, but it is a story about a man whose belief wavered in the cause to free Scotland from England. The movie follows the journey of The Bruce as he rediscovers himself through the eyes of a common family who lost their father and husband in the war for freedom. While he may crave to disappear into the pages of history, he realizes that he stands for more than himself. He stands for Scotland and by the end of the movie you will find yourself willing to join his cause!

I really wanted this to be good. I knew it wasn’t going to be big budget battle sequences. I liked who they casted. But having seen it, now I am not sure why they made it. It’s just a fictional story about a winter in Scotland with Robert the Bruce as part of an ensemble cast. Frankly, this story could have been told without Robert the Bruce bc its all fiction. It would have been nice to see a movie that wanted to delve into his motivations and character while perhaps showing what actually happened.

It’s a simplistic yet beautifully told story about a king’s connection with his people. See Angus Macfadyen back as Robert the Bruce is amazing. He was just born to play this role and both he’s done it well. - Ian Morrison
