  • The Message

The modern day Jimi Hendrix of Rock and Roll! Hendrix delivered messages in his music. Clark does the same! Keep doing what you doing and don’t be afraid to speak your heart in your music. You teach a lot people! Thank you Gary Clark Jr!
  • How DARE you GCJr!!

    By EMVW, America's Daughter
Shut up & entertain me GCJr! How dare you bring down my mood with your actual, real life account of what you & your kind deal with growing up/living in America? It’s not my problem, & furthermore I REFUSE to acknowledge YOUR experiences as truth. So I don’t care to hear about your pain. Just keep singin’ the blues, you know, about my pain. Not yours. And how DARE you claim this land is yours, you know, just like the popular American anthem “This Land is My Land?” You can’t sing that because you’re black & that makes that statement racist & ridiculous! You know we just allow you & your kind to live here as long as you agree to quietly & passively deal with the mental, physical & systemic effects of racism. And how DARE you bring up Trump’s name JUST ONCE to literally describe the geographical location of where you live? Now I gotta whine & complain that the ENTIRE song is “anti-Trump”, & of course “anti-Trump supporters” because WHO ELSE would be the perpetrators of the racism you experience daily? Just stick to sangin’ the blues boy because if I gotta hear about the evils & ugliness of my society & how that affects you & yours, then I’m just gonna label it political, call it crap, call YOU a racist, & stop supporting your music. Hmph (folds arms & puts blinders back on that GCJr. so rudely knocked off my face).
  • This Land...

    By Picoman
Song isn’t about politics, it’s about him being racially profiled and interrogated by a new white neighbor about why he was on the ranch he just purchased. Refused to believe Gary was the owner...
  • Not very good all over

    By Carr315
Wow, this guy is using derogatory words regarding ethnic race. Last thing I want to hear is someone’s political justification while demeaning his own culture. Go to school or something to open that mind to a broader perspective other than yours, mine or me. Waste of $8

Look at all these reviews from snowflakes who can’t handle the real world! Boohoo! Racism is REAL and we cannot ignore it! I’m proud of this artist putting real life issues into the spotlight, and if these so-called patriots REALLY loved America, they’d accept this as poetry! And yes, an African American man is using the N word, have a problem with that, Trump Supporter?
  • Amazing

I can’t stop listening to songs from this album. I first saw Gary Clark Jr when he was introduced by Queen Latifah on her show. I immediately loved his style and music. He is very talented. I saw some negative reviews here. My view is he is brilliant. I love This Land and pretty much everything he performs/produces. My favorite is The Guitar Man. I am happy to see other sides of his personality and talent through his music. He is definitely on heavy rotation on my playlist.

  • Tell it like it is

This Land is right there in your face, the truth about any black man that's had that racist venom spewed at them.I understand why some would be upset but, to claim this is not the blues and it's Hip-Hop ,let me educate you on the blues, it is a genre that was started by black artist that describes their feelings and what real life issues they're going through, this really is the description of all lyrics regardless of the genre of music.Everyone who is not black are ok with black artist ripping blacks to shreds in their lyrics and more importantly to them is they think that people who don't look like them should accept the oppression that put on them and not say or do anything about its a black man I too have had racial slurs shouted at me by cowards driving by as I walked home as a young kid,I'm glad so many are upset with what he's saying, that means it's accomplishing his goal to make you think, and as far as that clown in the White House he will be tried for various crimes in the future,I can't believe his followers are so stupid that they would be led against everything that America truly stands for and choose to be hateful,Rock On Gary,I'll support your new album.Peace
  • Potential is there!!!!!!!!!!!!

My dad once told me don't judge a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes. Many of the reviewers here are giving Gary grieve because he is witing and singing songs about what he has experienced. If you are not a black man in America - then you don't know what it's like. With that being said - I have t give this album 5 stars because there are some jems here i.e. Pink Caddy and Highway 71. At this point - Gary needs to find the right producer(s) that can work with him on his sound and on his song writing. He needs a few hit songs - some with some crazy hooks and melodies. He needs to get with some song rock and blues producers that can assist on moving him to the next level - trust me he will - this guy has a lot of talent!!!!!!!!!!!!
