Happy Now by Gang of Four

Legendary post-punk band Gang of Four, have released their new album and it is one of their best to date. Their new album, Happy Now, is a sublime mixture of jagged electronic guitar instrumentals and John ‘Gaoler’ Sterry’s stellar vocals. The deep lyrics and brooding song compositions in Happy Now will make you understand the beauty in gloominess.

Happy Now consists of 10 songs that stay consistent with the sound of their previous albums. However, the futuristic instrumentals continues to push the envelope of the music industry as a whole.

The album’s first song “Toreador”, is a perfect example of Gang of Four’s metamorphosis into a cutting edge band with a touch of the past. In “Toreador”, you are immediately hit with an ominous sounding electronic guitar. As the tension rises, another upbeat electric guitar is added into the song which makes you reminisce their post-punk era songs. The instrumentals in “Toreador” are also accompanied by raw lyrics about the yearning of a lost loved one. “Toreador” encapsulates the evolution of Gang of Four and is a good representation of the album as a whole.
