Thursday’s Featured Music Artist, Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar’s success at last night’s Grammys has solidified him as one of the most impactful song and music video creators. Below are two of his music videos that illustrate his unique music style and social justice messages. Download the Edge Music app or search this website to find these videos and more!

Kendrick Lamar – Poetic Justice

Released: 2013

The music video for “Poetic Justice” features a love story set in Kendrick Lamar’s hometown of Compton. The mood of the video is defined by the predominant use of black shading. Kendrick Lamar fortunately finds love in the video; however, he ironically has a tragic ending.

Kendrick Lamar – These Walls

Released: 2015

In complete contrast to “Poetic Justice”, the video for “These Walls” shows a comedic story of a prisoner’s depiction of a Kendrick Lamar party. The party consists of drinking, fighting, and dancing to an absurd and abnormal degree. Midway through the video, Terry Crews makes a cameo as an angry money collector that participates in a choreographed dance routine for a talent show. The video for “These Walls” ends on a cliff hanger of a prisoner who has successfully tunneled his way out of jail.
