Katy Perry – Hey Hey Hey

Released: 2017

Directed by Isaac Rentz

The video for “Hey Hey Hey” shows Katy Perry in a French 18th century comedic courtship. Throughout the video Katy Perry is shown on a date with a disgusting and misogynistic French nobleman from the 18th century. Katy Perry dons a litany of classic French clothing that ranges from a French noblewoman to even Katy Perry’s version of Joan of Arc. The video attempts to show how Katy Perry lives a life as a princess in real life, but has the spirit of warrior. The ending to the video is a little gruesome, however, it’s realistic to what consequences were like in 18th century French society.

Ellie Goulding – Lights

Released: 2011

Directed by Sophie Muller

In the music video for “Lights”, Ellie Goulding is shown in various outfits while playing drums. As she’s playing drums, a dazzling display of lasers shoot in every direction. Despite the bounty of colorful lasers, the video is more known for its “bullet time” video effect. The camera will periodically freeze and slowly move across Goulding to capture the bullet like speed of the lasers.

Released: 2010

Directed by Gil Green

The African themed video for “Oh Africa” features Akon singing in front of African images, people wearing African clothing, and Africa’s soccer team. The inspiration for the video primarily came from Akon’s childhood experience in Senegal, Africa. The video emphasizes that it’s important to explore and celebrate your heritage.
