The abstract video for “We Exist” features actor Andrew Garfield as a transgender woman. In the video, Garfield is shown traveling through a town as a transwoman and ends up getting into a physical altercation. The altercation is solved by Garfield and the extras doing a choreographed dance. The video shows the dark reality of transphobia, but also makes light of people who are transphobic. The video’s narrative of transgender empowerment truly captures the song’s message of being accepting of transgender people.
Directed by Daniel Wirtberg
“Crystalfilm” shows the story of a young female farmer being stalked by haunting scarecrows. The constant chase by the scarecrows creates an eerie feeling that she will never out run them. The video seems fairly straight forward, however, you will not expect the surprise ending.
Directed by Steve Hoover
The video for “Fireflies” displays Owl city lead singer Adam Young performing on a Lowrey spinet organ in a room filled with 80’s toys. The Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, Speak & Spell, and toy dinosaurs bring the nostalgic feeling of playing with physical toys. The video does an impressive job at showing how simplistic objects can bring us some of our most joy filled experiences. The video currently has 250 million views on YouTube.
